Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committees

Health, Safety and Wellbeing Committees (HSCs) play an important role in helping to keep the RMIT community safe.

There are HSCs covering all people and work and learning areas of RMIT. Schools and non-academic business units are responsible for forming their own HSC unless another arrangement for consultation is in place.

The HSCs work across all aspects of health, safety and wellbeing. Their role includes:

  • planned and structured consultation
  • the formulation and review of health and safety processes for their school or area
  • sharing health and safety knowledge
  • raising awareness of health, safety and wellbeing matters.

New HSCs should meet monthly, and once established, at least every three months.

Minor, day-to-day matters and problems brought to the attention of any HSC member should be dealt with immediately – there’s no need to wait for an HSC meeting.

The Health, Safety and Wellbeing team keep a register of all HSCs.
