The Regenerative Futures Institute works to find practical solutions that help rebuild and improve social, environmental, and economic systems, making the world fairer, more inclusive, and more sustainable for everyone.

We use knowledge from different fields and bring together researchers, educators, industry experts, and communities to go beyond just reacting to global challenges - we aim to create lasting solutions that make a real difference. As a globally connected university, we combine local insights with international partnerships to speed up progress and make meaningful change.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are custodians of unique knowledges and practices that prioritise culture, community and place. We put Indigenous Knowledges at the heart of our pursuit of regenerative futures. We tackle big problems like climate change and inequality with proactive solutions.

Whether it’s advancing innovation, strengthening communities, exchanging knowledge, or inspiring transformation - everyone has a meaningful role in shaping our collective future.

The Institute builds on five key pillars that position RMIT at the forefront of regenerative education and research

Aligned expertise across disciplines

Educational programs mapped to regional priorities

Strategic interdisciplinary research priorities and impact platforms

World-leading centres, labs and innovation hubs

Commitment to game-changing strategies

What’s next

From early 2026, we will offer interdisciplinary short courses, an undergraduate minor, and a series of thought leadership events focussed on regenerative practices and sustainability innovation. These will give industry, government and the public access to vital knowledge for shaping a regenerative and just future.

We are also developing an interdisciplinary research strategy that will amplify our impact in response to complex global social, economic and environmental issues.

Events

Our Events Seasons curate a selection of events around a theme aligned with regenerative futures.

During each season, we act as an enabler and amplifier. We support people within RMIT and the wider community to deliver events aligned with RFI and the season's theme.
