RMIT partners with SAS to offer SAS Academic Specialisation Certificates via its analytics, statistics and mathematics programs.
RMIT partners with SAS, a leader in business analytics, in offering the SAS® Academic Specialisation in its Bachelor and Master programs in Maths and Analytics.
The academic specialisation documents students’ coursework using SAS software to solve real-world business problems, giving graduates a competitive advantage in the job market.
This joint offering addresses the global shortage of skilled analysts by preparing students to compete in today’s data-rich business environment.
“Businesses of all types and sizes now recognise that analytics skills are key to improved productivity, competitive advantage and profitable growth,” says Ian Edwards, Head of Academic Outreach at SAS Australia and New Zealand.
Currently there are two SAS Academic Specialisation courses offered by RMIT University. These are the SAS Academic Specialisation in Analytics and the SAS Academic Specialisation in Advanced Analytics.
The SAS Academic Specialisation in Analytics is part of the Bachelor of Applied Mathematics and Statistics and the Bachelor of Analytics, and the advanced analytics program is offered through the Master of Analytics and Master of Statistics and Operations Research.
Students completing specific subjects are eligible to apply for the joint RMIT/SAS certification. They can also claim an Academic Program Digital Badge, which allows students to communicate their credential in an ever-expanding online marketplace. This digital image contains verified metadata that describes the qualifications and the process required to earn them.
“Since the commencement of the SAS certificate program 10 years ago, many of our mathematics and analytics students found jobs as a direct outcome of completing the joint certificate or SAS related courses through our programs,’ says Dr Yan Wang, the program manager for Bachelor of Analytics, who has initiated the first RMIT-SAS joint certificate program in 2011.
“Apart from the joint program, we have also worked with SAS intensively on industry seminars, SAS workshops, SAS student award and SAS summer internship programs,” says Dr Wang.
Postgraduate Analytics students won an SAS Student Prize during the Science Award night in 2019.
“These collaborations have provided our students a wide range of opportunities to learn and apply analytics through the leading software in the market."
Associate Professor Mali Abdollahian, Program Manager for the Master of Analytics and Master of Statistics and Operation Research at RMIT, has developed the SAS Joint Certificate Program in Advanced Analytics. Since 2018, more than 100 students completed the Advanced Analytics certificate.
“The SAS Joint Certificate program is designed for our students to solve real-world business problems,” Associate Professor Abdollahian says.
“It gives students a competitive advantage in the analytics job market and it’s a great way to give recognition to those who have shown excellence in using and applying SAS technologies.”
