Income support for Master students

You may be eligible for student income support payments from the Commonwealth Government if you are undertaking a graduate certificate, graduate diploma or an approved professionally oriented masters by coursework program.

About student income support payments from the Commonwealth Government

If you are undertaking an approved tertiary degree, you may be eligible for student income support payments from the Commonwealth Government. Approved tertiary study may include:

  • graduate certificate or graduate diploma
  • professionally oriented masters by coursework that is essential for entry to or employment in a profession, and
    • the qualification is the minimum requirement for registration with a professional body and for entry to a profession, or
    • the degree provides the fastest pathway to professional entry offered by RMIT, or
    • the degree is the only pathway to professional entry offered by RMIT.

Program approval

Master by coursework programs are approved by the Commonwealth for student payments through an annual application round. Approval is based on set criteria and granted on a conditional basis.

Student payment eligibility

If you are enrolled in an eligible degree, and satisfy all other student payment eligibility requirements (including personal, parental or partner income tests), you may be eligible for income support.
