What is Salesforce?

Salesforce was one of the original Software as a Service (SaaS) providers. Today, it’s the biggest cloud-based software company, with dozens of enterprise applications, analytics tools, SaaS and PaaS (Platform as a Service) products.

So what is Salesforce? Although it began with CRM, Salesforce has diversified over the last few years to become a holistic cloud-based ecosystem, used by thousands of companies all over the world. There are more than 150,000 businesses using Salesforce, including big names like Amazon, Spotify and Facebook.

This rapid adoption makes Salesforce careers and Salesforce certifications extremely valuable. If you’re looking for a job in Cloud Computing, CRM Management or Email Marketing, a Salesforce qualification is almost essential. The platform is simply that popular.

What is Salesforce Trailhead?

Trailhead is Salesforce’s own learning experience platform. It’s how the company certifies Salesforce users and coordinates the global Salesforce community. Trailhead was started in 2014 and has evolved to cover pretty much the entire Salesforce ecosystem. Users can follow learning pathways (or ‘trails’) to pick-up new skills, gain certifications and boost their overall Salesforce knowledge. In partnership with Salesforce RMIT Online has developed several Salesforce shortcourses. These operate outside Trailhead, but they’re approved by Salesforce and will prepare you for the Salesforce certification exams.

It’s flexible

Because Salesforce is such a diverse ecosystem, graduates have tonnes of options. Want to build custom apps? Try the Heroku platform. Want to specialise in Blockchain? Salesforce just released a dedicated low-code solution. Getting some basic Salesforce fluency opens all sorts of doors.

It’s in demand

As the world’s number one CRM platform (by quite a long way) Salesforce is essentially future-proof. The Salesforce ecosystem is projected to create 11.6 million jobs and generate a staggering $2.02 trillion in business revenue between 2022 and 2028.

It allows you to specialise

There are actually lots of different Salesforce certifications. It’s a platform that really allows you to specialise. You can become a certified App Builder, Platform Developer, Systems Architect, Visibility Designer – or a basic Salesforce Administrator. It’s up to you.

It’s future-proof

Enterprise migration to the cloud is inevitable, and already happening in most cases. It’s no surprise that Salesforce adoption has exploded. In 2018, Salesforce was ranked the third most in-demand tech skill, and the platform created over 500,000 jobs in 2019 alone.

It's a growth area

On average, Salesforce careers pay around US$95,000 per annum. But that’s really just the tip of the iceberg. There’s plenty of scope for growth. Salesforce Administrators average $105,000 in Australia, while Developers can earn upwards of $120,000.

How to learn Salesforce for beginners

Our learning content is purpose built for online study and our curriculum is divided into easy-to-follow units. Each unit combines interactive webinars, 1-on-1 tutorials, group work and practical Salesforce tasks. The ultimate goal is to give you the skills you need for a career in Salesforce.

Here’s a taste of what you’ll need:

Commitment.Our course content is divided into bite sized chunks, and designed to fit in around your schedule. We recommend studying a few hours every day to stay committed and on track.
Notes. Your RMIT Online mentors will encourage you to take lots of notes. It’s a good way to flag any potential problems.
Collaboration. As part of the course, you’ll be working with experienced Salesforce professionals. You’ll also have access to an online peer community.
