RMIT Online transition advice

From 5 October 2026, RMIT Online programs are moving to RMIT University.

Currently, RMIT Online operates as a separate entity from RMIT University. By the end of 2026, all RMIT Online programs will be delivered directly through RMIT University. Your program will continue to be delivered online.

What this transition means for you

For all students:

  • Continue accessing your courses through Canvas as usual.
  • Your studies will continue to be delivered online.
  • Student support will move to RMIT Student Connect.
  • Further information will be provided before any changes affect you.

Any further impact on your studies depends on whether your program is continuing or being discontinued. Check your program status and the information and actions that apply to you are outlined below.

Is your program affected?

We have communicated with students about how their program will be delivered and supported.

If your program is continuing:

Your program will continue, and you can keep studying towards completion. You are expected to graduate as planned if you successfully complete your program requirements. Your degree will be awarded by RMIT University. In 2027, there will be some minor changes to how you choose your online tutorials, and we’ll let you know how to do that beforehand.

Some individual courses may be discontinued or replaced, and you will be contacted if this affects your study plan.

If your program is being discontinued:

You can continue studying during the teach-out period described in your program discontinuation letter. The letter includes your teach-out end date and outlines the steps you need to take.

Leave of Absence (LOA) requests will be assessed on a case-by-case basis as it may affect your ability to complete your program before the teach-out period ends.

If you are concerned that you may not finish by the teach-out date, contact Student Connect as soon as possible. We’re here to support you on your study journey we will talk through your individual circumstances.

Changes to student support

We will still prompt you ahead of key dates like census, but support will work differently. Rather than contacting RMIT Online, you will instead reach out to Student Connect.

Student Connect is RMIT’s centralised student support team and gives you one dedicated place to reach out — by portal, phone, webchat, or in person — whenever you need to. If you're not sure if this page covers your situation or if you have any questions about the RMIT Online transition, your enrolment, important dates, or other student enquiries, Student Connect can help you.
