People and industry

In addition to our ongoing dedication to learning and teaching, research and game design, we have also partnered with Kanga Esports, one of Australia’s leading esports organisations, which is set to accelerate the advancement of esports in Australia.

In 2023, RMIT announced a new partnership with Kanga Esports which aims to support the growth of esports in Australia and provide opportunities for students interested in pursuing careers in the esports and gaming industry. Kanga will provide coaching, training, and mentorship for the university’s competitive esports teams.

Esports is a rapidly growing industry, and we see this partnership as an opportunity to help cultivate the talent, innovation and vision needed to continue driving that growth forward.

Hayden Shields, CEO of Kanga Esports, on his enthusiasm towards the new joint venture with RMIT.

RMIT's vision for esports is to become an all-encompassing educational institution across five main objectives:

  • engagement and inclusivity
  • learning and teaching
  • research
  • work-integrated learning and industry partnerships, and
  • high-performance facilities and support.

Industry connections

By prioritising learning, teaching and research in this space, we’re nurturing relevant industry partnerships to give our students opportunities to pursue their desired career pathway. We continue to source and emphasise paid pathways that provide opportunities for experience, growth, and networking at big events such as PAX Australia, the Melbourne Esports Open, and more.

We’re integrating esports into relevant areas of our curricula, helping graduates and researchers to introduce games in traditional industries, such as industrial design, computer engineering, health sciences, media and sport science.
