In exciting news for ELICOS and Foundation Studies students, RMIT UP will be moving to the Scape Franklin building in 2024 - a brand new, bespoke world class learning and accommodation facility.
Known as Building 85, the new building is located at 97 - 99 Franklin St Melbourne, connecting us to the main university campus.
Pending approval from the relevant regulatory govering body, we're on track to be fully moved in by the end of August 2024.
The new RMIT UP building features modern classrooms and specialist spaces for:
It also includes a range of informal and formal spaces with welcoming, colourful designs, and lots of natural light.
All classrooms were developed in consultation with RMIT UP's educational experts, with support from RMIT University, fitted out with the latest technology.
You will soon receive a formal letter from RMIT UP announcing our new location.

Yes. Students can access their timetable and updated classroom location on Canvas.
Yes. RMIT UP will continue to deliver the same high-quality, student-centered approach to learning. Academic support services will also continue in the new building.

The campus is well-connected with public transport options. Within a 5-minute walk, students can access Melbourne Central train station as well as the Elizabeth Street and Swanston Street trams. For more information on how to plan your journey, use the PTV Journey Planner. It is also close to the new State Library Station, part of the Metro Tunnel project.

Building 85 has a dedicated storage facility for bikes and scooters, complete with end-of-trip facilities. These include day lockers for your personal items and showers so you can freshen up after your journey.
Access to our bike rooms is located via a private laneway to the left of Building 85 and can be accessed using your RMIT student card. For your safety, the laneway is well-lit after dark with wall-mounted floodlights and is monitored by security cameras.
Our bike storage rooms are equipped with ample locking rails to ensure the security of your bike and have CCTV coverage.
In addition to our on-campus facilities, our new Franklin Street campus is surrounded by cafes, restaurants, shopping and entertainment. Students can access the diverse dining and entertainment options at Queen Victoria Market, Melbourne Central shopping center, and QV all within a few minutes’ walk.
Many dining options are multi-cultural and at student-friendly price points.
The RMIT University city campus is a short two to five-minute walk from our new Franklin Street location. Nearby RMIT University services of interest may include Study@RMIT, RMIT Student Connect, RMIT Active Hub, or the RMIT University Student Union (RUSU).
Additionally, we have eBike and scooter charging points, which are designed to charge for four hours.
RMIT UP will continue to offer enriching student support services and activities.
Scape accommodates students from Australia and all around the world, and currently has 13 properties in inner city Melbourne.
RMIT UP students will be supported to find accommodation within the Scape network if desired.
