Hub for Apple Platform Innovation (HAPI)

Welcome to RMIT's Hub for Apple Platform Innovation (HAPI), where cutting-edge technology meets transformative learning. Nestled at the intersection of education and industry, HAPI is dedicated to exploring novel computing platforms and mastering the mobile app economy. By fostering a collaborative environment that works closely with Apple and its partners, HAPI enriches student experiences and empowers them to make impactful contributions in the tech industry.

HAPI is a vibrant centre for both teaching and research. We offer a unique curriculum that integrates Apple's latest design frameworks and developer tools, providing students with hands-on opportunities to develop expertise in app development and design for Apple platforms. Our teaching efforts are encapsulated in the 'Design & Develop for Apple Platforms' minor, featuring courses like "UI and UX for Apple Platforms" and "Getting started with iOS App Development", which are available to all undergraduate students across RMIT.

Education Initiatives

HAPI leads in creating curricula that bridge academia with industry, offering students the opportunity to engage in real-world projects while learning state-of-the-art technologies.

Research & Innovation

We delve into innovative projects that include extended reality and technological enhancements in learning, fostering collaborations with leading institutions and industries, such as health and cancer care innovations with Northern Health.

Engagement & Outreach

HAPI is committed to community involvement, offering workshops and outreach programs that connect with K-12 students and underrepresented groups, thereby nurturing the next generation of tech innovators.

The Hub is led by Professor Michael Cowling, a visionary leader dedicated to bridging the gap between academia and industry. With a wealth of experience in technology-enhanced learning, he champions the integration of innovative strategies to transform education. Under his guidance, HAPI seeks to deepen its collaboration with industry partners, drive educational innovation, and expand research opportunities related to Apple platforms.

Our skilled iOS Developers plays a crucial role in supporting learners to build technical competencies in app development. By working on standalone projects and collaborating with researchers, they create innovative iOS apps that support both educational and research missions at RMIT.

In partnership with Apple, our facilitators working in the Apple Foundation Program are available to consult on projects and are passionate about inspiring diverse cohorts to explore careers in technology and app development. They are committed to exploring new pedagogical strategies and learning alongside participants, driving innovation in education.

Hub Resources

The Hub for Apple Platform Innovation utilises state-of-the-art facilities to enhance learning and research. The Apple Foundation Program Learning Space, recently launched, runs alongside HAPI and provides a dynamic environment equipped with the latest Apple technology, allowing students and faculty to explore and innovate freely. This space is designed to foster creativity and collaboration, making it an ideal setting for both learning and discovery.

Our upcoming HAPI Space will further enhance our capabilities by providing a dedicated environment for cutting-edge research and development. This new facility is set to support a range of initiatives, including the creation of innovative educational technologies and industry collaborations that drive progress in the mobile app economy.

HAPI's initiatives are designed to produce graduates who are not just ready for the workforce but are leaders capable of driving social and organisational change. Our students emerge with the skills to leverage Apple's powerful technologies responsibly to solve real-world problems.

We invite you to be part of this exciting journey.
