This course is designed for individuals who have been on-job in lighting areas and want to reinforce their understanding of the design theory behind their practical applications in their workplaces. It is also suitable for those who are interested in commencing a career in the lighting industry.

This is a non-award course.

Duration

This course runs part-time over 2 years. The study year runs for 36 weeks with a 2-week break during June/July, and 2 mid-semester breaks.

The course is delivered entirely online. However, in Year 2, you may be required to attend a small number of on-campus sessions for industry engagement activities. You will attend one evening class per week, lasting approximately 4 hours. All session recordings are available through Canvas, allowing you to catch up on missed classes or revisit the content at any time.

• Year 1: Wednesdays 5.30 pm–9.30 pm (online)
• Year 2: Mondays 5.30 pm–9.30 pm (online)

Industry connections

Teachers for this course are currently working in the lighting industry and they have close connections to the industry.

The completion of this course is currently recognised and endorsed by the Illuminating Engineering Society of Australia and New Zealand (IESANZ).

Career outlook

Graduates can work in a range of roles in the lighting industry, or further their career in the field.

How to apply

Apply directly to the College of Vocational Education's Future Technologies cluster via the expression of interest form.

Applicants who do not have a Year 12 qualification or relevant work experience and/or employment in the lighting industry will need to contact the Program Coordinator, Noor Sateh.

Prior learning / credit

If you have prior previous work and life experiences, along with any formal, informal or non-formal learning, you can apply for RPL or credit, for more information please refer to how to apply for credit.
