This program provides knowledge and skills in lighting design including lighting principles, lighting engineering, electrical design and engineering projects.

Overview

You will learn about:

  • light source technology
  • fluorescent principles
  • CFL and HID lamps
  • induction lamps
  • LED technology and compatibility
  • energy efficiency measures
  • control systems
  • design compliance

This program is designed for individuals who have been on-job in lighting areas and want to reinforce their understanding of the design theory behind their practical applications in their workplaces. It is also suitable for those who are interested in commencing a career in the lighting industry.

This is a non-award program.

Duration

This program runs part-time over two years. The study year runs for 36 weeks with a two-week break during June/July, and two mid-semester breaks.

You will attend classes on-campus, with one evening class (4 hours) per week.

  • Year 1: Mondays 5.30 pm - 9.30 pm
  • Year 2: Wednesdays 5.30 pm - 9.30 pm

Industry connections

Teachers for this program are currently working in the lighting industry and they have close connections to the industry.

The completion of this program is currently recognised and endorsed by the Illuminating Engineering Society of Australia and New Zealand (IES).

Career outlook

Graduates can work in a range of roles in the lighting industry, or further their career in the field.

Apply directly to the College of VE – Future Technologies via the expression of interest form.

Applicants who do not have a Year 12 qualification or relevant work experience and/or employment in the lighting industry will need to contact the Program Coordinator, Mohammad Hassan.

Prior learning / credit

If you have prior previous work and life experiences, along with any formal, informal or non-formal learning, you can apply for RPL or credit, for more information please refer to how to apply for credit
