Melih is an Associate Professor in Operations Research and also serves as Deputy Head of the Department of Mathematical and Geospatial Sciences (Academic Operations). He previously worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Syracuse University and as a lecturer at Hacettepe University before joining RMIT.
He holds PhD, Master, and Bachelor degrees in Industrial Engineering from METU, a Master of Public Administration from the University of Melbourne, and a Graduate Certificate Tertiary Education from RMIT University.
His research spans multi-objective optimisation, mathematical programming, and combinatorial optimisation, with a focus on developing new approaches to solve large-scale problems efficiently. His current interests lie in selective vehicle routing problems arising in practical settings, including home health care, disaster response management, and project and maintenance management.
He is an active reviewer for leading journals including the European Journal of Operational Research and Computers and Operations Research, and serves as a reviewer for the Australian Research Council.
