The Centre will support the Electrification of Victoria’s Future Fleet, bringing government, university and industry partners together around the expertise and infrastructure needed to support widespread adoption of electric vehicles in Victoria. You can read the related media release here.
Sustainable Technologies and Systems Platform Director Professor Gary Rosengarten said RMIT’s Enabling Impact Platforms played a critical role in bring together the right people to help secure the funding for this new centre.
Platform funding allowed the creation of the Energy@RMIT network, pulling together researchers from different disciplines and backgrounds, including Associate Professor Mahdi Jalili who is the lead researcher for the Electric Vehicle Living Lab.
This led to several interdisciplinary roundtable events that ultimately seeded the collaboration needed to secure the major government grant for the electric vehicle research facility.
This initiative was led from RMIT’s School of Engineering and included researchers from the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing, and the Graduate School of Business and Law.
The first electric vehicle research facility of its kind in the southern hemisphere will be established at RMIT University in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD.
