Need to learn AutoCAD?

Gain a comprehensive introduction to AutoCAD (Windows) design, drafting and modelling software in this hands-on course. Get familiar with the AutoCAD interface, navigating tools and functionality, and learn basic drafting techniques including how to create 2D drawings. The content is structured to suit users across a broad range of industries and is delivered in a variety of modes including theory, demonstrations and practical exercises.

  • Introduction to the AutoCAD interface
  • Setting up drawings and templates
  • Drawing techniques using various coordinate entry methods and OSNAP
  • Efficient use of 2D drawing and editing commands
  • Exploring display commands (ZOOM, PAN etc)
  • Re-using drawing elements - Blocks and WBlocks
  • Text, dimensioning and hatching
  • Organising the drawing with Layers
  • Setting up Layouts for Plotting
  • Methods for efficiency and speed in drawing

    How to enrol

    Step 1: Register into a course

    Select 'Enrol' and use the webform to register your details for the course you want to study.

    Step 2: Make payment

    Complete your payment online. Bookings are not confirmed until payment has been made. Submit any eligibility for discounts prior to payment.

    Step 3: Await email confirmation

    You will receive a short course tax invoice email when your booking's finalised. You will then receive a course confirmation email, with additional course details, approximately one week prior to course commencement.

    Prerequisites

    No prior knowledge or experience is necessary for this introductory course.

    Basic computer skills are essential such as mouse control, Windows skills, the ability to use the internet and file storage networks.

    No prior knowledge of AutoCAD is required.

    Materials supplied

    All relevant course notes are supplied with comprehensive instructions and exercises.

    Materials to bring

    Pen, paper and/or laptop for note taking. A USB flash drive for transferring and storing files.

    Suited to

    The course will suit people who are interested in developing computer-aided drafting and design skill using AutoCAD. The course focuses on basic drawing techniques, so will suit users across a broad range of industries.

    Additional notes

    All our trainers are professional Architects, Engineers, Building, Industrial or Interior Designers with extensive AutoCAD experience. They are also Autodesk certified professionals. Many teach in related programs at RMIT.

    Outcome

    On completion, participants should have developed a good understanding of the functions and applications of AutoCAD for the preparation of 2D CAD drawings (including both practical experience and theory).

    Students will receive a Certificate of Completion. You must attend 80% of this course to be eligible for a Certificate (or 75% of a four-day course).

    Developed for practitioners with existing AutoCAD skills, this course is aimed at refining and further developing drawing and drawing productivity techniques. Delivery is through a combination of demonstration and practical exercises.

    Revit Architecture – Level 1

    You will be introduced to Revit Architecture, a powerful building modeller for architectural design and documentation in 2D and 3D. It is delivered through theory, demonstrations and practical work. You will gain hands-on experience using Revit & rsquo's modelling and documentation commands.

    Revit Architecture – Level 2

    You will explore Revit's advanced productivity tools with an emphasis on families and custom elements. The course is delivered through theory, demonstrations and practical application. You will gain hands-on experience through practical exercises based on Australian conditions.
