Human Rights Week 2020: Rights in recovery

A week-long program of free online events for Human Rights Week 2020, co-presented by the RMIT Social Innovation Hub and Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission. Includes the annual Human Rights Oration, delivered by the Hon. Julia Gillard AC and featuring RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President, Martin Bean CBE.

RMIT's Social Innovation Hub is partnering with the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission for a week-long program of online events to recognise Human Rights Week 2020.

The theme for Human Rights Week 2020 is Rights in recovery. In a year like no other, this theme recognises the central role that human rights will play in Victoria's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. The program culminates on 10 December – International Human Rights Day - with the annual Human Rights Oration, which will this year be delivered by former Prime Minister and current Chair of Beyond Blue, The Hon. Julia Gillard AC. Ms Gillard will be joined in conversation with Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commissioner Kristen Hilton to reflect on the impacts of this tumultuous year and discuss how we might move forward to become a more connected, resilient and equal society.

RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President Martin Bean CBE will also provide a special address at the event, to share his reflections on the year that has been, and the year ahead.

Other event highlights include 'Equality Talks', a two-part series of public discussions focused on equality, discrimination and human rights. These are free events but registration is required via humanrights.vic.gov.au
