Journalism scholarship

This Journalism Scholarship celebrates the 50th anniversary of Journalism at RMIT and recognises that our media must represent the communities upon which it seeks to report.

The 50th anniversary of Journalism at RMIT Scholarship has been established in recognition of RMIT University's commitment to journalism and its positive role in supporting inclusive and respectful graduates.

The Scholarship will provide diverse journalism students with funds to support their studies, be it in the form of a living allowance or educational expenses. The Scholarship could allow for work-integrated learning activities, including global ones.

Selected by a small Advisory Committee and provided annually, the Scholarship will be awarded to a student enrolled in a journalism major, in either the Bachelor of Communication (Journalism) or the Graduate Diploma of Journalism. The selected student must be able to demonstrate that they belong to a group of people who are underrepresented in the media. The scholarship is open to all eligible students irrespective of Australian citizenship and could be used to support a student on a temporary visa.

The scholarship has made me confident in my place at RMIT and has encouraged me to push through with any doubts I have as a journalism student. My time with RMIT has helped me meet amazing journalists. I have been able to get my foot in the door at the ABC through a traineeship program with them - I'm still with them. It has also encouraged me to pursue further storytelling and undertake different opportunities.
