Interpreter Capacity Building Indonesia is designed for emerging and practising interpreters who want to build their confidence, accuracy and professional capability in English–Indonesian interpreting.
Through hands-on practice, realistic simulations and expert guidance, you will develop techniques that can be applied across community, legal, healthcare, business, government and diplomatic environments.
Professional interpreting requires more than fluency in two languages. Interpreters need to listen actively, process information quickly, communicate meaning accurately and navigate complex interactions across different professional and cultural contexts.
Interpreter Capacity Building Indonesia offers an intensive, immersive and practice-oriented learning experience designed to strengthen these capabilities.
The course combines focused instruction with extensive practical exercises, giving you opportunities to immediately apply what you learn through realistic interpreting scenarios.
Regular feedback from experienced facilitators will support you in building your accuracy, confidence and professional judgement.

You will also explore the ethical frameworks that guide professional interpreting practice, including strategies for managing complex situations, confidentiality requirements and culturally sensitive interactions.
The underlying course design includes consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, chuchotage, note-taking, active listening and professional interaction management.

For this first course offering, preference will be given to participants working with English–Indonesian interpreting.
The course is strongly focused on learning by doing.
You will practise interpreting through simulations, role-play, group activities and guided exercises based on situations interpreters may encounter in professional settings.
Practise interpreting in environments such as conferences, events, hospitality and other multi-speaker settings.
Develop your skills through scenarios involving legal, police, court and immigration contexts.
Work with scenarios involving corporate training, professional meetings, technical terminology and business communication.
Experience simulations inspired by diplomatic meetings, government engagements and international forums.
Explore the communication demands and sensitivities involved in interpreting within healthcare-related settings. These practice areas reflect the course's focus on interpreting demand in Jakarta and Bali, spanning events, healthcare, legal, corporate, government and diplomatic settings.
Each session combines focused instruction with substantial practical learning.
The course is designed to mirror real-life interpreting demands so that your learning can be directly transferred into professional practice.
Course facilitators are leading international interpreters certified by the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) in Australia.
They bring extensive professional experience across diverse sectors, including community, legal and healthcare settings, together with regional expertise relevant to Indonesia.
This combination of international professional standards and local knowledge provides participants with practical insights into both the linguistic and cultural dimensions of interpreting.
The course materials describe the facilitators as NAATI-certified international interpreters with professional experience across multiple sectors.
