Victorian Disaster Resilience Alliance (VDRA)

The Victorian Disaster Research Alliance (VDRA), a collaborative initiative between eight Victorian universities, is building a statewide research network designed to strengthen Victoria’s capability in disaster resilience, response, and recovery.

By connecting disaster researchers across the state’s universities, the VDRA aims to foster innovation and co designed solutions that address Victoria’s unique challenges in natural hazards and community resilience. The Alliance also seeks to elevate Victoria’s expertise to contribute to national and international disaster preparedness, response, and climate resilience efforts.

We are pleased to share that a multi university collaboration agreement is now in the final stages of negotiation, with all eight Victorian universities engaged as prospective founding members. This agreement establishes the governance structure and operational framework for the Alliance, laying the foundation for shared leadership, capability development, and coordinated resourcing.

The establishment of the VDRA marks an important step toward building a more connected, evidence driven disaster research ecosystem for Victoria one that supports communities, government, and industry in preparing for and responding to an increasingly complex risk environment.
