RMIT offers a variety of research scholarships to support candidates to pursue excellence in their research while furthering their academic and career goals.
Scholarship applications are currently open. All applications for the 2018 mid year round must be submitted by 5pm AEST on Friday 4 May 2018. This round is open to newly commencing applicants only. In this round there will also be a specific allocation of scholarships for Masters by Research applicants.
Successful applicants will be required to commence between July – September 2018.
There are two basic types of scholarship that are made available through the research scholarship rounds. These are:
International tuition fee scholarships
- RTP International Fee Offset Scholarship (RIFOS)
- RMIT International Tuition Fee Scholarship (RRITFS)
Scholarship applications from international candidates are automatically considered for both a stipend and the Tuition / Fee Offset Scholarships.
When applying for a scholarship you will automatically be considered for all scholarships for which you are eligible. You do not need to submit separate applications.
New Zealand citizens
RMIT is pleased to advise that the recent Australian Budget announcement does not affect the entitlements of New Zealand residents seeking PhD and Master by Research opportunities in Australia. RMIT welcomes applications from suitably qualified applicants for admission and scholarship. Please see How to apply for further information about admission and scholarship for higher degree by research programs.
To be considered for scholarship you must hold, or be currently completing:

Please make sure that you check the individual eligibility requirements of these scholarships prior to submitting your application.
It is also important to note that the scholarship rounds are highly competitive and satisfying the eligibility requirements does not guarantee a successful outcome. When a scholarship round closes all applications are received are ranked in order of merit. This process takes five to six weeks to complete. Applicants are typically advised of the outcome of a scholarship round five to six weeks after the round closes for applications.

When completing the application form, please ensure you indicate in the relevant box if you are applying for both admission and scholarship, or applying for scholarship as a current candidate.
