About the Bachelor of Business

The Bachelor of Business is a flexible cross-disciplinary degree with a focus on developing you with the personal and professional capabilities that industry craves and the world needs, such as a global mindset, a commitment to social impact, digital agility, critical thinking.  

About the Bachelor of Business Professional Practice

The Bachelor of Business Professional Practice gives you access to all of the options in the (3-year) Bachelor of Business with the added benefit of a dedicated minor (in Study and Work) and professional experiences with industry partners, research centres, start-up support networks and/or the not-for-profit sector.

Frequently asked questions

With a focus on collaboration, the learning experience at RMIT is mostly delivered through face-to-face classes. Relevant learning materials and content are available online and can be accessed prior to and in-between classes via our digital learning platform. 

During classes, you'll deepen your knowledge by connecting with expert teachers and undertaking projects and assessments that are both individual and collaborative, so that you can graduate work-ready.

You'll also gain a range of opportunities beyond the classroom, which may include global and industry experiences. Industry experiences will be a key part of your learning and may be in the form of presentations and panels with industry experts, real-world client briefs, simulated workplace experiences in the classroom and more.

There's often more than one way to get into a course so don’t worry if you don’t meet all the criteria at first. Study pathways provide opportunities for you to transfer from one course to another based on your previous educational experience.

In your first year, you will need to complete 48 credit points in Foundation subjects, along with an additional 48 credit points from your chosen combination, which could include both majors and minors depending on if you have been granted credits for prior learning. You have the option to view and enrol for major and minor subjects through the online enrolment system. Yes, you can change to the Bachelor of Business Professional Practice during your Bachelor of Business, but you will need to satisfy the entry requirements for the Bachelor of Business Professional Practice. This will be based on your GPA in the Bachelor of Business that is converted to a rank comparable to an ATAR. Additionally, these two courses have different structures. Due to these differences, the later in the course that you transfer, the more likely you are to increase the duration of your study.

You can also change your major halfway through your degree provided you have sufficient credit points available.

Yes! Students who are studying at another institution, TAFE or university can apply to study at RMIT and may be eligible to receive credit for your previous study.

There are no exams in the Bachelor of Business, except where required for professional accreditation. 

Yes, both the Bachelor of Business and the Bachelor of Business Professional Practice can be completed part time. Completing the Bachelor of Business part-time takes 6 years, while completing the Bachelor of Business (Professional Practice) part-time takes 8 years.

Note: International student visa holders can only study full-time.

Yes, you can take a maximum of 48 credit points of University electives from outside the College of Business and Law.

Note: Students who receive credit may not be eligible to undertake University electives from outside of the College of Business and Law.

All students studying the Bachelor of Business and Bachelor of Business Professional Practice have the option to undertake an internship as part of your degree, using your Business Options. There are subjects which enable you to gain academic credit for relevant internships.

You are ultimately responsible for sourcing your own internship but there is support and services available to all students.

You can gain credit points towards your degree by undertaking a range of global opportunities, including:

  • Study tours: These allow you to combine overseas travel and cultural experience while completing coursework in intensive mode. They can run from 1 to 3 weeks, depending on the destination.
  • Student exchange/cross-campus studies: Eligible students can study one or two semesters at RMIT’s campuses in Vietnam or at one of over 200 partner institutions around the world.
  • International work placements.

Your major will be printed on your testamur and transcript including all other graduation documents. Minors will not appear.
