2025 is the International Year of Quantum, as it is 100 years since the initial development of quantum mechanics.

But what does this mean for society? How can quantum technologies help reduce inequalities, support clean energy, and inform climate action?

For RMIT's Social Sciences Week, join us for this special event featuring a screening of the film 'Interstellar' and a panel discussion. Our expert panel chaired by Dr Justine Lacey, lead of CSIRO's Responsible Innovation Future Science Platform, also features award-winning researcher and activist Professor Wendy Steele (RMIT), Professor of Theoretical Physics Nicolas Menicucci (RMIT), bioethicist and scientist Dr Evie Kendal (Swinburne University), and more to be announced.

After the panel, we'll watch Christopher Nolan's 2014 thought-provoking sci-fi epic 'Interstellar', starring Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway. Set in a dystopian future where Earth is ravaged by dust storms and famine, Nolan's film follows a group of astronauts as they travel through a wormhole to find a new home for humankind, and explores the intersection of science, ethics, and the future of humanity.

Presented in partnership by RMIT's Social Change Enabling Impact Platform and RMIT Culture, as part of the Academy of the Social Sciences of Australia's Social Sciences Week.
