RMIT University and The Wheeler Centre proudly present preeminent philosopher A. C. Grayling discussing one of the most urgent issues of our time: the decline of democracy.

Around the world, the foundations of democracy, freedom and civil liberties are being eroded. What can be done?

Far-right ideologies are being embraced in the open, billionaires and corporations are flagrantly interfering with elections and and once liberal countries are sliding towards authoritarianism. All signs point to a profound loss of faith in our democratic ideals.

Speaking about his eye-opening new book For the People: Fighting Authoritarianism, Saving Democracy, beloved philosopher A. C. Grayling joins journalist Sally Warhaft to unpack the forces that are undermining democracy worldwide – from gerrymandering and partisanship to corporate interference and tainted donations – and offers bold solutions to safeguarding ourselves against the rising tide of authoritarianism.

This event will feature an introduction from RMIT's Associate Professor Cathy Greenfield, whose research focus incorporates political studies, political economy and cultural economy. Cathy will contextualise Grayling's work within our current political and cultural landscape.

Presented by RMIT University in partnership with The Wheeler Centre.
