Important Information
Students who have received a denied outcome from a Special Consideration request may appeal against the decision.

This form can be used to appeal against a decision of the RMIT University Pathways (RMIT UP) Assessment Team regarding a special consideration application, where:

  • there has been an error in the process that has been a significant factor in the decision, and/or
  • the decision was made without appropriate consideration of the facts, supporting documentation or circumstances, and/or
  • the evaluation was unfair or was prejudiced or biased

You must do this within 2 working days of receiving the outcome from the RMIT UP Assessment Team.

Submission Requirements
In order to make this appeal submission, you must:
  • do this within 2 working days of the decision being emailed to you by the RMIT UP Assessment Team. This is so that you are not disadvantaged by having to start the next module late.
  • provide evidence that:
    • there has been an error in the process that has been a significant factor in the decision, and/or
    • the decision was made without appropriate consideration of the facts, supporting documentation or circumstances, and/or
    • the evaluation was unfair or was prejudiced or biased
RMIT UP is committed to resolving appeals as quickly and fairly as possible and at no cost to students. You may bring another person to any meeting as support.

A written record will be kept on your file of any complaint, notes of meetings held and any decisions made. This record is confidential. You may make a request to Student Services to see this record.

Appeals Procedure

Internal
  1. Use the Special Consideration Appeals form on the next page to write your appeal to the Deputy Director, English.
  2. The Deputy Director, English may invite you to a meeting to discuss the matter and may also invite other staff members to attend the meeting, as appropriate.
  3. You will receive an email to your RMIT student email account within 2 working days of the appeal submission which will include the outcome of the appeal, with details of the resolution and any reasons for the decision.
Remember, you may be supported at any meeting by a person of your choice and your existing enrolment will be maintained while your appeal is conducted. This may mean that you can continue to attend class, or arrangements may be made to ensure that you are not disadvantaged in achieving your study goals.
