We are a design community grounded in the traditions of established design professions while focusing on the future of practice, in its many manifestations.
The School consolidates RMIT’s design fields of Communication Design, Industrial Design and Digital Design (animation, games and interactive Design). While maintaining a focus on these disciplines, we embrace innovative approaches to interdisciplinary work. We work closely with industry, the cultural sector and communities, including research collaborations, internships and partnered studios.
Our industry partners include: ACMI, the National Gallery of Victoria, ANZ Bank, Australia Post, The Olivia Newton John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre, Austin Hospital, Lend Lease, Deloitte Digital, Aurecon, The Melbourne Zoo, to name a few.
We are global facing and engaged in what we do. We deliver programs in Singapore and Vietnam and have a community of PhD researchers based in RMIT Europe and Asia.
In the 2019 QS Rankings by Discipline RMIT is ranked 12th in the world and number one in the Asia-Pacific region in the field of Design. Many of our academic programs are recognised as being leaders in the region. In the last two Australian Government Research Assessments (ERA) we have been ranked as ‘above world standard', reflecting the high quality of our research publications, creative works, PhD candidates and our success in competitive research income.
"During my design studies, I undertook placements at a design studio and at RMIT. Through these placements, I was able to design for professional clients and respond to feedback. The RMIT placement gave me the opportunity to design within corporate guidelines."
