Hi everyone, my name is Teba Mazin and I'm the ambassador of the WOMENG Youth Program.

I work as a project engineer with DM Roads and have been involved in road services civil engineering industry for nearly 5 years now.

I started in the industry back in mid-November 2017, when I joined Downer in the Cadetship Program, which was an amazing experience for me to get such a different range dof experience of what it means to be an engineer in the industry.  

So really excited to be part of the program as an ambassador for the program to roll out because I think it's such a powerful and impactful program for young girls - so often nobody actually knows what engineers do and it can be a bit of grey area, so it's exciting to be able to provide opportunities where young girls to be involved, hands on and communicate and talk to people who are involved in the industry as well.  

So we're not only showcasing and bringing the engineering role to the girls and we're also role modelling it again for them.

You know, something I strongly believe in is you can't be what you can't see, and to be able to represent that as a young female myself who works in the industry and connects young girls I think it's a really, really exciting initiative to link the bridge between the two and showcase they belong to the industry and that it's an exciting and challenging and incredible industry to be part of.  

So since being involved in the Cadetship program it was a really great experience for me because going into it I had no idea what engineering entails, and what engineers even do, I never actually saw myself as an engineer and came across engineering just by accident and maybe passion for maths as well.  

So I've been involved in a rotation based where I got involved in different businesses and different sides of road services was really great because it showed me that I actually belong to the industry and it showed me how interesting and exciting and challenging it is to be a part of the industry and be able to grow and learn and become the best engineer that I can be.

So the youth program entails five different days of three separate excursions to three different sites, as well as two days of mentorship from a senior executive of the infrastructure and engineering space.  

The program provides exposure to young girls, to the infrastructure engineering industry which involves construction of railway, roads, as well as infrastructure.  The program itself will select 15 young girls between the levels of year 9 to 12 to be a part of the program.
