Elster Creek Summary

Three out of the five litter trackers launched at Elster Creek travelled into the Bay. Bottle 1 took approximately 9 hours to travel from the mouth of Elster Creek to Elwood Foreshore. Bottle 2 took approximately 3 days to travel 52 km from the mouth of Elster Creek to Dromana Beach. Bottle 5 took approximately 2 hours to travel from the mouth of Elster Creek to the Elwood Foreshore. The other two bottles were picked up by locals and discarded into the recycling bin. The litter trackers at Elster Creek tell an interesting story. Several litter trackers travelled upstream and downstream numerous times as Elster Creek is a tidal waterway. A number of them were caught in the litter trap but were set free with the movement of the tides and travelled into the Bay. This suggests that litter than ends up in Elster Creek has the potential to travel into the Bay despite the 2 litter traps.
