The Best Films You've Never Seen: JAWS (M), 1975

Join us to celebrate the film that launched the blockbuster era, as ‘Jaws’ returns to the big screen at The Capitol - RMIT.

Fifty years after its original release, Stephen Spielberg's razor-sharp thriller, starring Roy Scheider, Richard Dreyfuss and Robert Shaw, remains as nerve-jangling as ever. Adapted from Peter Benchley's best-selling novel and incorporating John Williams' iconic score, the film is a masterclass in expertly managed suspense, proving that what we don't see can be just as terrifying as what's on screen. Through its groundbreaking wide theatrical release and cutting-edge promotional campaign, the film defined the contemporary Hollywood blockbuster as we know it.

A RMIT cinema studies academic will open the screening with a contextual introduction, framing the film within mid‑1970s America and exploring how its craft, themes and impact reshaped popular cinema.

For long-time fans or curious first‑timers, come and experience Jaws on the grand scale it deserves.
