RMIT University in partnership with The Wheeler Centre proudly presents Barrie Cassidy and Tony Barry at The Capitol for a live recording of the Guardian's popular podcast, Back to Back Barries, days before the final votes in the Victorian State Election are cast.

Who will win Victoria and why?

Victoria's Labor Government is seeking a fourth term. The Coalition wants to end 12 years in opposition. And One Nation's resurgence in the polls continues.

In 2025, political commentators Barrie Cassidy and Tony Barry took to The Wheeler Centre stage to unpack the federal election in front of a sold-out audience. Now, they return with their sights set firmly on Victoria.

As the state enters the final days of the election campaign, the Barries will dissect the contest, explore the issues shaping the race and consider what the result might mean for Victoria over the next four years – and for the broader national political landscape.

Before the conversation, Dylan Bird, a lecturer in journalism at RMIT University and host of Future Perfect on Triple R, will provide a contextual introduction. Drawing on his academic research, he will explore the role of media in democracy and the ways journalism shapes our understanding of political contests.
