Learn how to use surveying technologies and software to capture, process and present electronic data, and gain practical experience with industry-standard equipment.
During this program you will learn how to collect and interpret spatial data in various forms and operate surveying equipment.
This program is delivered face-to-face in a blend of classroom and field activities at Yarra Bend Park.
You’ll become experienced in the field and be able to organise surveying field services, conduct field surveying operations, and operate surveying equipment. You’ll also learn how to produce computer-aided drawings and prepare and present Geographic Information System (GIS) data.
Practical skills are integrated with important analytical skills like maintaining workplace safety in the property industry, and developing environmentally sustainable practices.
This program includes:
- a project-based format simulating the workplace environment
- online delivery
- hands-on field days (Yarra Bend Park)
- face-to-face delivery
You'll do eight weeks of block-release training spread over six months at RMIT's Melbourne City campus.
The assessments (assignment and project work) may be completed outside the block days.
For students in traineeships, study will complement the workplace training set in the CPP40216-Trainee-training-plan.
Graduates are employed in the spatial information industry as assistants to land surveyors, survey technicians, GIS/GPS operators or as computer draftspersons.
You may initially work in areas like land management, civil and structural engineering, or asset management for local government or mining companies.
