RMIT UP hosts respected Colombian influencer Camila Zuluaga Barrera

RMIT UP was honoured to host respected Colombian social media influencer, author, businesswoman and former television and radio presenter Camila Zuluaga Barrera and her family recently on their first ever trip to Melbourne, Australia.

Camila, her husband Felipe and their three-year-old son Salomón spent three weeks exploring everything the city of Melbourne has to offer while Felipe studied English with us here at RMIT UP. Their trip was co-sponsored by RMIT UP and Blue Studies International with support from Austrade Colombia, and included a meeting with the Australian Ambassador before their departure in Colombia.

Camila, a popular content creator and reviewer with over a million followers on YouTube and Instagram, has been documenting her family’s experiences of embracing life as both an international student at RMIT UP and as a family visiting Melbourne.

Camila was able to observe our classes in action, tour RMIT UP and RMIT’s Fashion School in Brunswick, connect with current RMIT and RMIT UP Colombian students, and join our Student Experience team for fun-filled trips to Phillip Island and (of course) a footy game at the MCG! Most importantly – she highly rates Melbourne coffee.

She says she found Melbourne’s safe, family-friendly atmosphere very appealing, and she was impressed by all the free activities offered to our international students and struck by the genuine support and care RMIT UP international students receive.

“Felipe really enjoyed meeting students from so many different cultures – people from around the world. That was really amazing for us – as we don’t get that opportunity in Colombia as often. Felipe was also very impressed with the technology being used in the classrooms at RMIT UP.”

RMIT UP jointly funds COLFUTURO-RMIT, the Foundation for the Future of Colombia (COLFUTURO) which aims to provide financial assistance to talented Colombian students who want to pursue Masters and PhD programs at RMIT.

COLFUTURO scholarships provide funding for English Language Studies (ELICOS) including the RMIT English Language Bursary for Latin American students. Since 2023, nearly 110 Colombian students have studied long-term at RMIT UP.

Camila says, "We really wanted to experience this city to see what it would feel like to live here one day, and we feel like we really got to have that experience.”

To hear more from Camila, check out her family’s adventures at RMT UP and in Melbourne on her social media channels!

A huge thanks to Camila, Felipe and Salomón, and we hope to be able to welcome you back to Melbourne in the future!
