RMIT Council is the governing body of the University; its responsibilities are set out within the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology Act 2010 and include oversight and review of the management, performance and corporate activities of the University. The elected student term of appointment is for a one-year period commencing 1 November 2025 and concluding 31 October 2026.
All eligible persons may self-nominate by completing the online nomination form.

The Academic Board is the principal academic governing body responsible for oversight of RMIT's academic affairs across the RMIT Group. The Academic Board has established three standing committees that provide advice and support to the Board:

The elected staff term of appointment is for a two-year period commencing 1 January 2026 and concluding 31 December 2027.
The elected student term is for a one-year period commencing 1 January 2026 and concluding 31 December 2026.

The University has contracted BigPulse to administer the 2025 election.
Nominations for the Council, Academic Board and Standing Committee elections will open at 12noon AEST on 15 September 2025 and close at 12noon AEST on 25 September 2025.
Candidates may self-nominate by completing and submitting the online nomination form, which will be emailed to RMIT students and staff who may be eligible from 12noon AEST on Monday 15 September. Check your RMIT inbox for the email sent from ‘RMIT Elections’.
There are strict eligibility requirements for RMIT Council and Academic Board nominations. Please check the eligibility requirements above prior to completing a nomination form.
Nominations must be received by 12noon AEST on Thursday 25 September 2025.
A nominee may, no later than two (2) business days following the close of nominations, withdraw their nomination by notice in writing to the Returning Officer via elections@rmit.edu.au.
In the event a position receives surplus nominations (a contested election), an electronic ballot/vote will be conducted.
Voting for the Council, Academic Board and Standing Committee positions will open at 12noon AEST on 6 October 2025 and close at 12noon AEST on 13 October 2025.
All eligible students and staff can vote by completing and submitting the online voting form, which will be emailed to all eligible RMIT students and staff from 12noon AEST on Monday 6 October. Check your RMIT inbox for the email sent from ‘RMIT Elections’.
Results for the 2025 elections will be declared on 15 October 2025. Successful candidates, their positions and terms will be available via the RMIT Elections Register.
