The Prize includes a monetary prize, an editorial mentorship and a residency at RMIT’s McCraith House on the Mornington Peninsula. This exciting opportunity, which is free to enter and open to all writers in Australia, presents a tailored experience for one writer to develop their project from a budding idea into a strong final piece with the support of industry professionals.

Now in its second year, this literary prize is for short speculative writing in all forms, and entries are now open to Australian VE and university students.

Eligible works must be under 3,000 words and can be any fiction or narrative nonfiction form as long as your work is curious, bold, and beyond the real, embracing new literary modes and extending the possibilities of short form writing to the idea of 'speculate'.

The winning entrant will receive:

  • A week-long writing residency at RMIT University's McCraith House, Mornington Peninsula, VIC
  • $1,500 (inclusive of $250 residency stipend)
  • And much more!
