2025 in review: SHINe activity and annual report

SHINe’s first year was a busy one. SHINe held its first Symposium, completed its first project, presented work at multiple industry events, visited partners in New Zealand and the USA and increased its membership base.

2025 has been a busy year for SHINe.

We commenced our first project ‘Decluttering health and safety management activities’ in February, with a second project on the subject of ‘Risk control assurance in dynamic project environments’ commencing in July.

In December 2025, the Decluttering project was completed with the production of a research report and process mapping tool. The ‘Risk control assurance’ project will continue in 2026.

During 2025 we were invited to speak at lots of different industry conferences and events. The included delivering a Masterclass on Communication and Culture for frontline construction leaders, hosted by our member organisation Construction Health and Safety New Zealand. Our Executive Director, Distinguished Professor Helen Lingard also gave the prestigious Dr Eric Wigglesworth Memorial Lecture at the AIHS National Health & Safety Conference.

We hosted a number of events, most notably our First Annual Symposium, that was a great success.

We increased our membership with the following new members signing up in 2025:

  • Hutchinson Builders
  • Simonds Homes,
  • WorkSafe ACT, and
  • Transgrid.

We also continued to build our close working relationship with the Construction Safety Research Alliance at the University of Colorado, Boulder. This included a trip to Boulder to attend and speak at the CSRA Safety Summit in November.

We are pleased to share our Annual Report detailing our activities in 2025.
