SHINe staff visit MARS

SHINe staff attend workshop to promote mining workplace safety.

SHINe Executive Director, Helen Lingard, and Construction Work Health and Safety Research @ RMIT Deputy Director, Rita Peihua Zhang, were welcomed by Edith Cowan University's Mental Awareness, Respect and Safety (MARS) Centre. The multidisciplinary MARS Centre works collaboratively with the West Australian mining industry to create mentally healthy workplaces, build a culture of safety and respect, and prepare for workplace safety in future mining.

Taking place over two days, the visit included:

  • a co-design workshop, exploring collaboration opportunities between SHINe and the MARS Centre
  • a seminar led by Helen about managing health and safety in complex project supply arrangements
  • a presentation and Q&A led by Rita showcasing the interactive video-based training of RMIT’s Play It Safe Hub, and
  • a talk led by Helen to provide insights and guidance on academic career progression and research impact for early to mid-career researchers.

It was wonderful to explore compatibility and complementarity between the work of the MARS Centre and SHINe and the visit provided a fantastic two days of knowledge sharing, conversation and exploring opportunities for future collaboration between our two groups.
