Overview

Construction Induction (CI) White Card is legally required to work on a construction or building site in Victoria.

By law, under Part 5.1 of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007, a person must successfully undertake construction induction training before working at a construction site in Victoria.

You will gain knowledge and awareness of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent industry or harm to self and others. As you will be studying a nationally endorsed unit of competency, you will be contacted by Academic Services regarding the online enrolment steps.

All relevant course notes will be supplied with comprehensive instructions, exercises and assessments. Please bring photo ID and pen, paper and/or laptop for notetaking.

CI Whitecard is delivered as a single-day course. Classes run between 9am - 4pm on Thursdays. Additional days may become available.

Payments and refunds

Should your specific class be cancelled for any reason you will be notified via email and your fees will be credited towards an alternate date. Should you decide not to choose an alternate study study date, you can apply for a refund of fees paid as per the standard refund process.

If you cannot attend on the day you have enrolled in you will need to drop the class BEFORE the day to ensure that you are not liable for the fees paid.

  • Student services and amenities fee (SSAF): AU$326 maximum fee* for 2023.

  • Other items related to your program, including field trips, textbooks and equipment.

Annual fee adjustment

The student tuition fees as displayed by the fee finder are indicative only and subject to change given individual circumstances at enrolment. Fees are adjusted on an annual basis and these fees should only be used as a guide.

In addition to tuition fees, you will be charged an annual student services and amenities fee (SSAF), which is used to maintain and enhance services and amenities that improve your experience as an RMIT student.

The SSAF is calculated based on your enrolment load and the maximum fee for 2024 is $351. 

Student services and amenities fee (SSAF): AU$51 maximum fee for 2024.

*Note: *SSAF will be charged per nominal hour at a rate of $0.49 per hour in 2024.

Frequently asked questions

To attend the class, you MUST BRING Safety boots/Steel cap boots and your RMIT Student Card

If you have the following items, please bring them to the class with you, otherwise, they will be supplied by the teacher:

  • Eye protection – AS/NZS 1337.1
  • Hearing protection – AS/NZS 1270
  • Head protection (hard hat) – AS/NZS 1801
  • High visibility reflective vest – AS/NZS 4602.1

If you are will require PPE for ongoing work projects, we recommend you use your local directory and seek out a safety store, such as RSEA Safety Stores.

If you will only use PPE on a semi-regular basis, you can go to places such as Bunnings, Officeworks or even Lowes, which carry a range of safety products at a reasonable price.

WorkSafe Victoria will mail your white card to the mailing address you provided when you registered for your short course. If you don't receive your card within 5 weeks of completion, please contact WorkSafe Victoria on 1800 136 089.

Please note that your CI White Card will not be issued until you have completed your online enrolment.

Students will not be registered with WorkSafe until all fees are paid.

All students will receive a confirmation letter stating that they have successfully completed the Construction Induction White Card Training at RMIT. This can be used to gain access to worksites until the physical card is sent by WorkSafe Victoria.

Participants will also be issued with a nationally recognised statement of attainment for CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.
