Gutter Stars

Lab members Dr Melody Ellis and Associate Professor Ronnie Scott convene a comics research and practice collective, currently 16 makers strong.

Gutter Stars includes RMIT students from Honours to PhD, and also hosts comics professionals and the comics-scholarly-curious from around the state. The group meets roughly once a month to workshop comics and talk about critical readings.

Gutter Stars is currently delivering material-focused comics workshops at the Emerging Writers’ Festival and a live show of comics that experiment with performance, gallery and critical spaces called Comics off the Page, featuring new work by the whole collective.

This is supported by Creative Australia, and includes a book printed by Glom Press and a performance and exhibition at Pink Ember Studio.
