PhD (Economics)

Muhammad Ryan Sanjaya is an economics PhD student at the School of Economics, Finance and Marketing. Ryan completed his Master’s degree in international and development economics from the Australian National University in 2012.

Currently, Ryan is researching how religiosity and ethnicity may have an impact on spiteful behaviour using an artefactual field experiment. Ryan’s work is built around the larger context of cultural heterogeneity and social violence where he also does a microeconometric project on this subject.

Prior to joining RMIT as a PhD student, Ryan was a lecturer at the Department of Economics, Universitas Gadjah Mada in Indonesia from 2013-2015. He chose RMIT for having a strong academic team in the area that he is interested in and for its flexible research program.
