The S&R Hub Summer Workshops are a collection of workshops designed for undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as members of the public who are looking to upskill or transition their careers. They provide introductory, interactive exposure to technologies relevant to industry.
The workshops will be either half day or full day, with one workshop being held online and the remaining workshops being held in person at RMIT’s City Campus. The sessions are sponsored by industry and the S&R Hub and will be free to attend.
The 2026 Summer Workshops will be held on 25-27 February 2026.
Registration numbers for each workshop are limited, so please only register only if you are certain on attending. If circumstances change, please let us know so we can open your spot to others.
Wednesday 25th of February – 2:30pm– 6:30pm – In Person
This workshop will give participants a short, hands-on introduction to the Arcadia method and Capella, tools used to visually design and understand complex systems in the Defence, Transport and Automotive sectors. Participants will learn how to model system behaviour, from understanding what it needs to do, to showing how its parts interact. By the end of the session, participants will be able to build simple system models and confidently apply structured design principles to plan, communicate, and manage complex projects.
No prior experience with Arcadia, Capella, or systems engineering is required. Basic familiarity with software usage and general IT skills are sufficient.
Wednesday 25th of February – 9:30am – 1:30pm – In Person
Discover CSIRO’s cutting-edge geospatial toolbox designed for disaster resilience research. This hands-on session introduces participants to high-performance geospatial processing and risk assessment techniques using Python.
Basic experience with Python and Jupyter is desirable but not essential.
Thursday 26th of February – 9:30am – 6:00pm – In Person
This one-day workshop will introduce Mission Engineering through a series of hands-on, practical, and industry-relevant workshops. Learn how to model operations, assets, payloads and capabilities across air, land, sea and space domains, using cutting edge modelling and simulation tools. The interactive workshops will explore how to capture, analyse and visualise complex systems of systems in their operational environments.
Thursday 26th of February – 10:00am – 2:30pm – Online
This one-day workshop will introduce participants to the IES Decarbonization Digital Twin (DT). Learn how to build high‑fidelity energy models, run predictive scenarios, optimise comfort and energy use, and uncover decarbonisation opportunities with strong ROI. Gain practical skills in IES VE and learn how technology links to local sustainability rating systems like NABERS.
Friday 27th of February – 9:30am – 1:30pm – In Person
Learn how SARL supports distributed intelligence, adaptive behaviour, and scalable multi-agent systems, with applications across AI, cyber-physical systems, robotics, and resilience-focused technologies.
Basic programming skills in Java are required.
