About

Dr Oliver Eklund is a Vice-Chancellor's Research Fellow at RMIT in the School of Media & Communication. He specialises in media public policy, including television, screen, and new media policy. He was previously a public servant in the Communications and Media Group of the federal department responsible for the Australian Government's media reform agenda.

 

He completed his PhD from the Digital Media Research Centre (DMRC) at QUT on Australian screen cultural policy and was a member of the University of Oxford's Media Policy Institute in 2022. He has a deep interest in Australian and global work underway to update legacy policy frameworks to account for the sizable disruptions in how consumers and media industries operate in the digital era.

 

He has consulted for the Australian and Queensland Governments, and for digital platforms like Roblox. He has published in leading academic journals like Journal of Communication and Media InternationalAustralia, collections like Digital Platform Regulation and The Sage Handbook of the Digital Media Economy and is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Digital Media & Policy,
