Submission to the Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion

Background

The Royal Commission on Antisemitism and Social Cohesion (the Commission), was established by Letters Patent on 9 January 2026. The Commission’s terms of reference recommend measures that will tackle antisemitism in Australia and strengthen social cohesion in Australia.

Business activity touches every Australian, everyday – as employees, customers, students, suppliers, investors, online users and community members – giving business the power to make impactful change.

About the submission

This submission is made by the Business and Human Rights Centre at RMIT University (BHRIGHT) in response to the Commission.

The submission puts three core recommendations forward to the Commission:

  1. Build the legal and regulatory architecture to enable business to address antisemitism and strengthen social cohesion.
  2. Equip business to identify and respond to antisemitism.
  3. Mobilise business as a builder of social cohesion.

BHRIGHT’s Director, Dr Jonathan Kolieb, an Associate Professor of Law, wrote the submission, as a Jewish Australian deeply concerned by the rise of antisemitism in Australia.
