The Next Generation Internet Architecture Research Group brings together researchers in protocols, network and application design and telecommunication and network engineering.

Our infrastructure and facilities

The Group has access to a range of infrastructure and facilities. Hardware includes GPON, HFC, 4G, provider edge and customer routers and switches, software defined networking testbed. Software platforms include 5G cloud native core, multi-access edge computing, cloud fabrics, cloud virtualization, containers, protocol design and analysis tools. The group has extensive industry and vendor support and continues to look for new opportunities to build partnerships with industry.

Current research activities

The Group is focusing on 5G cloud native core, multi-access edge computing, routing fabrics, advanced protocols and network design that overcome the major challenges facing telecommunications and networks today.

Research performance

The Group has secured Australian Research Council funding for infrastructure and research into a Group focus area. The Group is a part of the School of Engineering which has achieved a "5" in the ERA 2018 rankings for Electrical and Electronic Engineering (0906), which indicates research quality well above world standard.
