Dr Kat Nelligan is a proud Gamilaraay woman and Lecturer in Music Industry at RMIT University. She is a songwriter, musician, and electronic-music artist who produces music under the moniker of Zaffiri (see zaffirimusic.com).
Kat’s research areas include: the theraupetic uses of music-making in youth justice settings; music, mental health and wellbeing; Indigenous storytelling through music; and music as a form of resistance to colonisation. Her PhD was on marketing and branding narratives in pop music and her book, Brand Lady Gaga, is based on this work and will be published in 2025 by Bloomsbury Academic.
Kat is a Lecturer in the Bachelor of Arts (Music Industry) program at RMIT. She teaches across first, second, and third year core music subjects, as well as elective subjects in popular music, music videos, and popular culture. She is available for supervision.
