About
Sapan Tiwari is a Research Assistant – Transport Modeller (Postdoctoral Fellow) at the Centre for Urban Research.
Before this, Sapan earned his Ph.D. in Transport Modelling from the Department of Infrastructure Engineering at the University of Melbourne. There, his work focused on developing strategies for integrating shared autonomous fleets with public transport, which honed his expertise in transport systems modelling and agent-based modelling.
Sapan holds a Master of Technology degree in Transportation Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati, India, and a Bachelor of Technology degree from the University College of Engineering, RTU, Kota, India. Before commencing his doctoral studies, he gained research experience as a Junior Research Fellow at IIT Kharagpur for six months.

With advanced degrees in Transport Modelling, his work focuses on developing detailed models to assess the impact of cycling strategies in places like Bendigo. His research supports the creation of more sustainable, accessible, and efficient transportation systems, aiming to improve urban and regional mobility through innovative approaches such as activity-based and agent-based modelling. Sapan’s expertise is crucial in advancing sustainable transport and active mobility projects
