Bambang Trigunarsyah commenced his appointment at RMIT University in July 2018.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Civil) from the Colorado School of Mines, a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Construction Management) from the University of Indonesia, and a PhD in Engineering Project Management from the University of Melbourne.
His professional career commenced in 1988 as a Graduate Project Engineer at Hudbay Oil Malacca Strait Ltd., a production sharing contractor for the Indonesian State-Owned Oil Company. In this capacity, he contributed to oil field development projects, including the construction of access roads, well-site facilities, a base camp, a process plant, pipelines, and offshore structures. He also coordinated two studies focused on road construction over peat.
He began his full-time academic tenure at the University of Indonesia in 2001, following the completion of his PhD. In 2002, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Civil Engineering Department and subsequently promoted to Head of Department in November 2004. From 2007 to 2013, he served as Associate Professor and Course Leader for the Master of Project Management and the Master of Infrastructure Management at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Australia. In August 2013, he joined King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in Saudi Arabia as an Associate Professor in Construction Engineering and Management.
His industry experience encompasses the following roles:
- Project Engineer and Senior Project Engineer in the oil and gas industry in Indonesia
- Secretary to the Advisory Board, Indonesian National Construction Service Development Board (2002–2007)
- Member, Infrastructure Cluster Advisory Board, Australia-Indonesia Centre (2016–2018)
