Career Success WIL Grant

For students studying a bachelor's degree experiencing financial hardship through loss of income, incur additional expenses or require specialist resources due to undertaking a WIL placement in 2024; worth up to $3,000.

The value of any Career Success WIL Grant will be determined by a number of factors based on information shared in your Expression of Interest application, and if selected, during an initial meeting with a member of the Career Success team.  

Grants are up to a maximum of $3,000, paid in two installments. Half will be paid at the start of your placement, and the final half is paid after your placement has finished and once you’ve completed all the required tasks and had a final careers meeting. 

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • be studying a bachelor degree and undertaking a work integrated learning (WIL) placement (also known as internship, practicum, fieldwork, co-op) as an essential part of your studies (either core course or elective) during 2024 or over the summer of 2024/2025
  • be able to demonstrate that you will experience financial hardship through loss of income, incur additional expenses or require specialist resources* due to undertaking a WIL placement in 2024
  • belong to at least one of the identified groups below:
    • identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
    • be from a rural/regional/remote background 
    • be deemed low socioeconomic status (such as being a recipient of a government low income benefit or having a Centrelink Health Care Card) 
    • completed secondary school at a School Network Access Program school
    • RMIT Equity Scholarship holder
  • not have received a Career Success WIL Grant previously
  • be available between 12 - 22 March 2024 to discuss your WIL placement and personal circumstances to determine eligibility and level of funding.

*Additional expenses or specialist resources may include parking fees, accommodation costs, travel to/from placement, additional uniform and equipment costs, lost income from casual jobs, etc.

If offered a Career Success WIL Grant, you will be required to sign an agreement to acknowledge the tasks required and level of funding offered. These additional tasks are designed to help you get the most out of your WIL placement and develop your employability skills further. These are: 

  • complete a Career Management Cred before your WIL placement starts,
  • obtain a WIL Supervisor's report, 
  • complete a brief written reflection,  
  • update your resume to reflect your WIL experience, and  
  • attend a 1:1 career meeting to share your WIL reflections, review your tasks and discuss careers planning. 

Full details will be provided at your initial meeting.

By participating in a WIL placement, you will:

  • feel more confident and have a better understanding of successfully navigating the workplace in your chosen field,
  • obtain a deeper understanding of your potential career pathway to assist with your career decisions and goals, 
  • develop career management skills that you will use throughout your career, and
  • increase your professional connections and network in your chosen field.

The scholarship application process is highly competitive with a limited number of scholarships available. Unfortunately, not all eligible applicants will receive one.
