Yugo Accommodation Support Scholarship

For students who need to relocate to study at RMIT in Melbourne; provides a rental subsidy worth up to $9,328 for accommodation at Yugo University Square.

Five scholarships were awarded in 2026.

To be eligible for this scholarship you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • have relocated/will be relocating from interstate or a rural or regional area to Melbourne for the first time to study at RMIT (check eligibility using the Regional Adjustment Calculator)
  • be commencing full-time study in Semester 1 2027 in a certificate IV, diploma, undergraduate degree or postgraduate by coursework program at RMIT (Brunswick or City campus)
  • be enrolling in a program with a duration of at least 1 year
  • not already be committed to a student accommodation provider under a lease agreement in 2027
  • be able to demonstrate circumstance(s) that impact your ability to study, or be from an RMIT priority group, including:
    • living with a disability, long-term medical condition, or identify as neurodivergent
    • have experienced or currently experiencing significant personal or life difficulties
    • are experiencing financial hardship, for example if you:
      • receive a Centrelink/Department of Veterans' Affairs low-income support payment, or
      • hold a low-income Centrelink Health Care Card
    • are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
    • are a current or former refugee
    • are from a low socioeconomic (low SES background)
    • completed secondary school at a SNAP (School Network Access Program) school
  • not have previously studied at RMIT
  • not have previously completed a program at the same level or higher, for example, if you plan to study a Diploma of Engineering Technology, you should not have previously completed another diploma

If you are a Certificate IV or Diploma student you must:

  • not be enrolled in an apprenticeship or traineeship program
  • be commencing a program with a duration of at least 1 year or a pathway program combination (a mix of certificate IV and diploma) that is at least 1 year long

It is preferred that you apply direct to RMIT for this scholarship.

Depending on your circumstances, you will need to provide different types of evidence and material to support your scholarship application. Applications without supporting documents will not be considered.

Timely applications: If you submit your Access and Equity Scholarship Application by 31 August 2026, we’ll let you know if we need any additional documentation.

Applications for Semester 1 2027 close 2pm Tuesday 20 October 2026. No late applications will be accepted.

Bond: Recipients will be required to pay a bond equal to 4 weeks rent ($848 in 2026) to Yugo University Square prior to moving that will be lodged with the Residential Tenancies Bond Authority (RTBA). The bond is refundable to students at the end of the tenancy agreement following an apartment inspection and clearance of all relevant payments to the accommodation provider.

Two weeks of rent is also payable by the recipient to secure the room, equivalent to $424 in 2026.

If a recipient chooses to terminate their Residential Tenancy Agreement prior to the lease end date, they must adhere to the Yugo cancellation policy.

Notice to applicants

The scholarship application process is highly competitive with a limited number of scholarships available. Unfortunately, not all eligible applicants will receive one.

Only successful candidates will be notified via email to their RMIT student account.
