RMIT Equity Travel Grant

For students undertaking an international mobility activity for credit, who can demonstrate circumstances which impact their study; worth up to $3,500.

For travel starting between 1 December 2026 and 31 May 2027, applications are expected to open 31 August - 9 November 2026 (dates to be confirmed).

The RMIT Equity Travel Grant provides up to $3,500 depending on your mobility activity and destination.

To be eligible for a RMIT Equity Travel Grant you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, an Australian permanent resident or a permanent humanitarian visa holder
  • be able to demonstrate circumstance(s) that impact your ability to study, or be from an RMIT priority group, including:
    • live with a disability, long-term medical condition, or identify as neurodivergent
    • have experienced or currently experiencing significant personal or life difficulties
    • have relocated/will be relocating from interstate or a rural or regional area to Melbourne to study at RMIT (check eligibility using the Regional Adjustment Calculator)
    • are experiencing financial hardship, for example if you:
      • receive a Centrelink/Department of Veterans' Affairs low-income support payment, or
      • hold a low-income Centrelink Health Care Card
    • are an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
    • are an early school leaver, mature-age student, or you entered university via a TAFE pathway
    • are a current or former refugee
    • are from a low socioeconomic (low SES) background
    • have recently completed secondary schooling at a SNAP (School Network Access Program) school
  • be enrolling in an undergraduate degree or postgraduate by coursework program at RMIT 
  • not have previously completed a program at the same level or higher, for example, if you are enrolled in a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours), you should not have previously completed another bachelor's degree
  • meet these overseas mobility activity requirements:
    • for application period 2 April 2026 to 13 May 2026, you must be commencing your overseas mobility activity between 1 June 2026 and 31 December 2026 
    • you will need to be enrolling via Enrolment Online in that overseas mobility activity course* which is a minimum of 12 credit points**
    • not be paid (through wages, salary or an allowance) specifically for undertaking your overseas mobility activity, such as payment from an overseas internship provider
    • not be in receipt of other grants or scholarships from RMIT for your overseas mobility activity.

*The course is required to be a 100 percent overseas mobility activity. For example, an overseas internship/placement that makes up 25 percent of the course requirement with the other 75 percent conducted in Australia is ineligible for an RMIT Equity Travel Grant.

**Overseas study where you will receive credit exemptions upon your return are ineligible. You must be enrolled in the mobility activity via Enrolment Online.

Complete the online application by the close date. Partial applications will not be assessed.

Supporting documentation

Depending on your circumstances, you will need to provide different types of evidence and material to support your scholarship application. Applications without supporting documents will not be considered.

The RMIT Equity Travel Grant is usually paid two months prior to the commencement of a student’s mobility activity provided they are enrolled via Enrolment Online.

You cannot be awarded more than one scholarship/grant (of any type) to fund your mobility activity.

Supported international mobility activities include but are not limited to:

  • Study Abroad
  • Exchange
  • Global intensives (study tours)
  • Industry and research placements/internships where no salary is paid.

You should not rely on receipt of grants/scholarships alone to fund your outbound mobility activity.
