Beneath the glowing arches of RMIT University's iconic venue, The Capitol, the Melbourne Fringe Opening Night Gala crackles with life. A 90-minute spectacle of everything Fringe does best: bold ideas, high-voltage performances, and independent art with heat you can feel from the back row.

This is not a warm-up act. It’s ideas forged at the edges, pushed past the safe, the expected and the polite, and shaped into something that couldn't exist anywhere else.

Hosted by Michelle Brasier, expect standouts from across the program. Visionary voices, creative fire-starters, and cultural risk-takers, all handpicked for a night of blazing glory.

This isn’t just an opening. It’s a rallying cry. Show up for independent art. Participate in this city’s most fearless Festival. The Opening Night Gala is where the 2026 Festival will ignite. Step into the fire and come out changed.
