Dr Ismail “Sol” Abdulhak is Program Manager and Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the School of Management, RMIT University. He completed his PhD in Strategy and International Business at Monash University in 2021, where his research examined subsidiary-level performance dynamics, institutional distance, and foreign ownership strategies.
Sol’s research sits at the intersection of international business, strategy, entrepreneurship, and innovation. His work examines how firms navigate complex institutional environments, adapt across borders, and sustain performance over time. Beyond the multinational enterprise, his research interests extend to reshoring, deglobalisation, innovation strategy, international entrepreneurship, and the changing nature of venture creation. His work has been published in Regional Studies (ABDC A*), the Journal of International Management (ABDC A), and Thunderbird International Business Review (ABDC B).
Sol has over a decade of experience designing, coordinating, and teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses in entrepreneurship, strategic management, and international business across RMIT University, Monash University, the University of Melbourne, and Victoria University. His teaching practice focuses on experiential learning, authentic assessment, simulation-based pedagogy, and the integration of digital and AI-enabled learning tools. He has led and contributed to several teaching innovations, including digitally immersive curricula and structured, process-based approaches to student-driven learning. In 2019, he received the Monash Business School Dean’s Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.
Sol is also an active member of the international business scholarly community. He served for three years as a board member of the Academy of International Business Oceania Chapter and received the Academy of International Business Best Reviewer Award in 2018.
