Bin Wu is a Senior Lecturer in Early Childhood Education with extensive experience across both early childhood settings and tertiary education in New Zealand and Australia. Her research explores a wide range of issues in early childhood education, encompassing educational theory, philosophy, and history, as well as the evolution of early childhood practices. She has a particular interest in issues of gender, diversity, and equity in education, as well as in teacher education, curriculum development, and policy-making in higher education. More recently, her work has examined the impact of neoliberal contexts on wellbeing, equity in early childhood teacher education, and the role of care in shaping preservice teachers’ professional identities. Through this research, she aims to contribute to more equitable and inclusive learning environments in early childhood education and beyond.
RECC, RMIT Early Childhood Connect
Bin is the Lead of RECC. The RECC is a simulated early childhood space designed to support teaching, research, and collaboration, the first of its kind within a university in Melbourne. She initiated and led its development from concept to realisation. Working collaboratively with the team, she now leads research innovation and professional learning through this space, creating opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships that connect early childhood centres, researchers, and industry partners.
The RECC has provided a valuable learning environment for students, particularly international students, by helping them bridge theory and practice and build confidence before entering real-world settings.
Dr Bin Wu has taught a wide range of courses in both undergraduate and postgraduate early childhood teacher education programs. She has particularly focused on Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) courses and has considerable experience supporting preservice teachers and mentoring them during their placements. Her background in guiding future educators through hands-on learning opportunities has equipped her with valuable insights into effective teaching practices and the development of professional skills in early childhood education.
